Pukatea (Laurelia novae-zelandiae)

Pukatea (Laurelia novae-zelandiae)

An impressive native tree that grows to 35m in height and was widely used by Maori for its medicinal benefits as an analgesic.  Like the kahikatea, it likes wet, swamp or shallow soil areas.  The star shaped flowers are light with yellow glistening glands and scarlet anther flaps that attract large numbers of bees.
