Matai (Prumnopitys taxifolia)

Also known as the black pine, this unusual looking tree is great for providing habitats for wildlife. The juvenile stage has a tangled mass of branchlets, bronzy-brown in colour. It is relatively fast growing at this stage, though growth slows as the more adult form is reached. Will grow to 10m in height and 4m in width.
